"Party Time at Summerplace" because Maddie McGraw it the HC! This will be Maddie's 1st year as an HC but with her past 2 years of Canoe Head experience plus her passion for older campers makes her a perfect fit for Summerplace! We are very excited to see what God and Maddie has planned for "the only place... Summerplace!" Get to know Maddie by reading her answers below...

Years at camp? This will be my 4th straight year at camp - all of those as a counselor.

University Attending? University of Georgia

Activities involved in at school? Baptist Collegiate Ministries - Freshman Bible study leader, Chick-Fil-A team member, recreation chair for Sigma Alpha Omega Christian Sorority.

Favorite camp song? Rare Bog

Item you must bring to camp? Spanish dictionary, Chacos, Native American wood flute

Favorite Scripture(s)? Joshua 1:9 "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you where ever you go." Matthew 10:29-31 "Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid you are worth more than many sparrows."

Favorite camp memory? Watching 2 Riversiders flip their canoe in front of Laney in an effort to get attention from the 10 year old boys, only to find themselves embarrassed standing on the sludgy Laney bank while the Argentina guy "Gary," rescued their canoe. HaHa. (*it is funnier now that they are counselors)

What are you most looking forward to this summer? I am most looking forward to being back at camp in general! It seems to get more amazing each year, so I am expecting this year to be pretty incredible. I'm ready to take a step up in leadership at Skyline and see a little more behind the scenes of camp. I'm pumped about the spiritual growth to come, and I can't wait to be a huge impact to all the upcoming S'Placers and the amazing co-counselors that will be sharing the bugs with me this summer! ;o) Get Excited!!

Introducing....the 2nd half to make the Hut Row Heads whole.....Mary Ellen McElroy!

A dynamic duo is definitely what we have here as Brennen and Mary Ellen McElroy ("Melon" to many) join together for a fantastic pair of Hut Row Head Counselors!! This will be Melons 1st experience as a Head Counselor, and we know that she will do a fabulous job positively influencing the lives of campers and counselors alike!! Melon even says that her and Brennon already have their matching bedspreads for Hotbox!! These girls are ready!!! Mary Ellen takes a minute to tell us a little more about her....

- Years at camp? 8 (camper) + 3 (counselor)= 11.....and now i feel kinda old:)
- School I'm going to? University of Alabama....Roll Tide!
- Activities involved in at school? The Well (campus ministry), Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority, Sorority Recruitment Counselor, working on getting into Nursing School...(that takes up most of my time). Babysitting for the cutest 4 and 2 year old boys 3 times a week, one of which has cystic fibrosis and I am madly in love with them!
- Favorite camp song? "Fried Ham"....especially underwater style!
- Items you must bring to camp? MULTIPLE FANS/CHACOS/WATER BOTTLE! (can't pick just one!)
- Favorite scripture? Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight." It got me through a bunch this year! I even learned a rap for it last year at camp.....thanks Inez!!
- Favorite camp memory? Probably when I was a club captain and hid during sock war under the gym with the two other club captains and ate peanut butter we'd "stolen" from the dining hall. So fun!
- What are you most excited about this summer? I'm looking forward to seeing more of how camp works from another view. I remember all of the head counselors that I interacted with over my years at Skyline and I hope to have at least a fraction of the impact that they had on me to the girls at camp this summer! I just can't wait! And the fact that all the head counselors get to eat together everyday....and have tea on our table.....haha....that's really exciting too!
Melon can't wait for this summer....and neither can we!

It takes two special people to watch over our Minis, Hut Row, and Lodge age campers and we are blessed to have Brennen Riddle as one of our Hut Row Heads this summer!! This will be Brennen's first year as a Head Counselor and we are excited to see what God will do through her as she encourages and leads our youngest campers! Learn more about Brennen below...

Activities involved with at school? Campus Crusades, Kappa Delta Sorority, Hope for Africa, volunteer with Oxford's Girls Scouts of America

Item you must bring to camp? Fan/Bible/Animal Bracelets

Favorite scripture? I love this one because it always reminds you to lift your friends up. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 "Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up..."

Favorite camp memory? That would have to be 2 years ago when my co-counselors and I woke up to one of our minis sitting in her top bunk, playing the ukulele! We laughed for hours! Gotta love those minis!

What you are most excited about this summer? I am most looking forward to meeting all the new staff members and to see the returning ones again! Every summer at camp brings me closer to God, so I cannot wait to grow in that way too!

Introducing the next HC..... Marie Savini!!!

Today we want to introduce you to the other co-head of Riverside... Marie Savini (known to us as Marizzle!) Marie and her "partner in crime" Sarah (not really crime... how about "partner in fun") will be making Riverside the place to be for summer 2010! Favorite memory about camp? My favorite times at camp are hanging out with all the Riversiders playing games and acting goofy.

What are you most looking forward to this summer? I am really looking forward to meeting all the new staff members and seeing all the returning ones along with the campers! I also cannot wait to grow closer to God this summer.

Introducing.... Skyline's 2010 Head Counselors!!!!

Everyday this week we will introduce a different Head Counselor for Summer 2010! Today we want to introduce to you Sarah Clark or Sclarky as we like to call her! Sarah will be co-head of Riverside for the 3rd year in a row!!! Tomorrow we will introduce her accomplice. We asked each Head Counselor a few fun questions and here are Sarah's answers...

How many years have you been at Skyline? 2 camper + 7 counselor (including this summer) = 9 years so far

Where do you go to school? Wake Forrest University

What activities are you involved with at school? RUF, Phi Mu, German Honors Society, playing guitar/banjo

Favorite camp song? "Yawning in the morning" (when the rising bell has rung, ding ding!)

What items are a must for you to bring to camp? Bible, water bottle, guitar

Favorite Bible Verse? John 1:9-8, Philippians 4:4-7, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Favorite memory at camp? My favorite times at camp include dance parties/game nights in the Riverside lobby, bedtime Bible studies, sing-along canoe treks down the Little River, many many other moments of general silliness.

What are you most looking forward to this summer? I'm most looking forward to spending another summer worshiping God with such fun and inspiring counselors and campers!

Cool climbing and rappelling for trip day?!! I think so!!

As we travel around to the local sites and check out possible trip day locations we stumbled upon a really cool place near Little River Canyon that I think you are going to love as much as we do!! True Adventure Sports (http://www.trueadventuresports.com/) let us come over yesterday and check out what they have to offer in the way of climbing and rappelling for a posssible trip day for our 10 and uppers. Alisa, Lindsey, and I....along with our new friend Laura who we met and climbed with, all had a great time with the help of our guides, James and Tyler!! They showed us how to rappel and climb, and just what fun our campers will have if they go on this awesome adventure!! Thanks to True Adventure Sports for showing us what it's all about and if you have the time for an adventure......you should head out their way!!!

Sequoyah Caverns!!

I bet you sometimes wonder what we do all day up here at camp when there are no campers or counselors around?!! Well, among TONS of other things (and yes, it is definitley busy year round up here....not just during the summer) we try to find some cool adventures to possibly go on with the campers on trip day! One place we decided to check out yesterday was Sequoyah Caverns! If you have never visited these amazing caves just down the road from Skyline before, then it would definitley be a treat to do so! We had a blast getting a guided tour through the cavern, seeing the sights, and even meeting "Edward" the Peacock!! I think (and Alisa and Lindsey are in agreement) that this is possibly a fun adventure that we may just have to do again this summer with some campers!!

Introducing....Sarah Harris!

I would love to take the time to introduce you all to our new Chaplain for Summer 2010!!! Camp Skyline has been a part of Sarah's life since 1992. Sarah fell in love with the unmatched experience of camping at Skyline and returned for several summers as both a camper and a counselor. Sarah earned her B.A. from Vanderbilt University in 2004 and she currently lives in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she is a high school teacher. One of Sarah's greatest passions is mentoring young women which she does at her school and through her local church. She is extremely excited to join the Skyline staff this summer as Chaplain and looks forward to a summer that is beyond anything we could ask or imagine!

Snow! For the 2343rd time this year!

Ok... it is not the 2343rd time we've had snow this winter season but it has been the snowiest season we have had in quite a few years. The March 2nd snow was by far the most inches we have had this year. Larry braved the roads and after getting stuck behind a few 18-wheelers he made it to camp. He thinks we had at least 5 inches here! Check out the pictures and videos Larry took of our winter wonderland! Wouldn't it be fun if it really snowed like this during Christmas in July? That way we wouldn't have to pick up the "snow" the next day!

Hey Skyliners!

I have an update on 4th session's own Alyse Scott and her amazing soccer accomplishments! Last October she went to Germany to play in Erfurt and won the MVP award!!!! There were only two girls in the whole tournament. In March she will be playing with her regional team in Portugal and her Club team will be finishing up National League games in Las Vegas! WOW Alyse! We are so excited for you. Good luck!!

Snow and Ice at Camp!

Hello All you Skyliners!!!

It has been very cold on the mountain these days... so cold in fact that the river is frozen! Yes, I said frozen!!! I have attached some pictures that Larry took last Thursday of the snow. These pics were taken 7 days ago and the river is still frozen. Alisa says you can walk out on it but I don't think anyone is courageous enough to try. (Can you imagine how cold it would be if you fell in?)

On another note... we would love to hear from you! If you and another Skyline buddy reunite somewhere then take a picture and send it to us. We would love to post it on the blog to let our whole Skyline Family know!

Skyline travels to Mississippi

Last week I got to see several of our Mississippi families while traveling for camp parties! We went from Biloxi to Oxford and a couple of places inbetween! It was so good to see Heather, Gracie, Mimi, Lee Ann, Nancy, Katharine, Camille, Sarah Ellen, Liza, Reid, Maggie, Shurley, and Anne Peyton! Whew--we got to see lots of our Skyline family and meet new families as well! We are so excited about all the new families that signed up for camp along the way and can't wait to see all of you this summer! I was not real diligent in taking a picture at each show...I actually only remembered once...but here are some snapshots of who we got to visit! Gotta love those Mississippi girls!

This past week a large oak tree between the office and the infirmary had to be taken down...reluctantly. However, this event proved to be very exciting as Trees Unlimted from Cave Springs, GA got creative. Check out this video of their new invention-the zipline for trees!

Short trip down the mountain becomes a blessing

What started as a normal day at the office this past Wednesday turned in to a great opportunity and blessing for us here at Skyline! Wendy, Lindsey, and I drove down the mountain to Trion Elementary School in Trion Georgia to donate some towels, clothes, shoes etc. to the flood victims. What we found there was a need for man power, organization, and over 120 families in need. These families had lost everything in the floods that hit Monday and some children had even come to school that morning in wet socks and shoes. What a blessing it was to be able to stay there and help the relief effort by sorting, organizing and handing out the relief supplies. While there, we ran into Mrs. Carole Pickle (wife of Pickle-king of the ropes course) who teaches at the school. She commented that this small Georgia town has been devastated by the recent flood. If you would like to reach out and help this community, there is now a Trion City Flood Relief Fund set up taking monetary donations. Call the school at (706) 734-2991 if you are interested in helping out. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those who were affected by the floods, especially those hardest hit in North Georgia and the Atlanta area.

Sorry for the delay but I have some exciting news to share! 1st Session camper Annabelle Braden sang the National Anthem at a Rome Braves game in July!!!! Her mom tells me that she did an awesome job. What a great accomplishment. We are so proud of you Annabelle!!!!!!!!!!!!

4th Session camper Alyse Scott is a State Champion!! Her high school soccer team just won the State Championship for the 2nd straight year! Alyse is the starting goal keeper and only allowed 1 goal during the playoffs. Check out the picture of Alyse in action!
