Camp Skyline

A MESSAGE TO PROSPECTIVE CAMP SKYLINE RANCH STAFF MEMBERS:

Owners, Edward and Sylvia Cash As Owners of camp Skyline Ranch, please let us share some of our thoughts on camp counseling with you. We would ask that you read through these comments carefully, and we request that you give this decision serious thought before contacting us for further information.

Camp counseling will be a happy experience for ambitious people, especially if you receive satisfaction from doing a job well. The Owners plan to make possible a happy summer for everyone - both campers and counselors. Camp Counseling is a lifetime job with adequate time off, but it is only fun to good, quality people who love children and will place their interests ahead of self in every instance.

Camp Counseling is a job for responsible people only.  Many college women enter summer camp work with the idea that it will be an eight-week vacation. This is far from true. While camp is fun, camp counselors should consider their job as being a chance to serve youth, as well as an opportunity for personal development.  Being responsible for the lives and character molding of young girls is not "Kid stuff. " It is a job for responsible and mature people.

Helping children is a serious task. Most parents send their girl(s) to camp because they know the strong influence of a good camp can have a positive and lasting effect on her life. Camp Skyline accepts TRUST with deep concern and responsibility. The Camp Owners cannot accept the responsibility alone. We employ the best young women we can find to share this responsibility with us. At Skyline we also feel a very keen sense of responsibility for the spiritual growth of our campers.  While we are a non-denominational camp. We endeavor to provide a strong Christian atmosphere for our girls.  We are looking for college age, enthusiastic Christian counselors.

We believe in one God, His word the Bible, and what it teaches.  We believe that all scripture is inspired by God, and is our final authority for faith and life.  We believe in a pattern of living exemplified by Christ, God's Son.  We believe that "life-style Evangelism" through our staff members is Camp Skyline's most active means of following Christ's example and communicating our beliefs.  We support having fun in a "chemical free " environment.  The use of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco are prohibited.  The use of profanity is also prohibited.  We believe in Traditional Christian Moral Values that do not violate God's Word, and our intent is to honor His Word

The camp staff must set the best example possible. Youth is impressionable; therefore, the camp environment must be strong, clean, and wholesome.  A girl in camp is under the influence of the camp and its staff 24 hours a day, amidst surroundings and under conditions that make her particularly susceptible to character influences.  This is a great challenge.  Are you willing to accept your share?

In camp work, job detail and devotion to duty are highly important! One must have a sincere desire to follow instructions, as well as give of her talents and ingenuity--all in good spirit and harmony with the camp administration.  It would be impossible to offer you a complete "job description."  A camp counselor gives all of her time to the camp except during her time off.  At Skyline, each counselor is given 2 nights out of camp each week.  This time off begins at 6:00 p.m. and ends at 12:00 midnight.  Each counselor must understand that she will be performing a responsible assignment with the welfare and care of campers (safety!) her foremost interest, and time off a subordinate consideration.  We want you to feel needed in our organization.  We require you to be present and useful at all times except for your scheduled time off

Every counselor at Skyline will live with and have charge of at least 12-16 campers in her cabin.  There is always another counselor and a junior counselor to share your cabin.  Your responsibility for these campers is regarded as second to none at Skyline.  A good cabin counselor is tremendously popular and influential with her campers.  You will be a "Mother," "Sister," and a Friend to your campers.  Your influence is tremendous; prepare yourself!  It is our goal that both counselor and camper leave Skyline at the end of the summer with the feeling that it "was the best summer of my life."

As you can see, camp counseling is a serious business.  Honestly, it will be the hardest thing you've ever done up to this point in your life.  But please know that it is fun, fun, fun, also. It is an Inspirational and educational experience. If you think you might be further interested in summer employment at Camp Skyline Ranch for girls, please complete the attached Application and return to us. The application requires "going the 2nd mile " in thought!  We pride ourselves in hiring a staff that believes in "going the 2nd mile " when it comes to taking care of children!

With Thanks,
