Michelle Bloom

2nd Session Encourager

Michelle grew up in Chicago, Illinois but is now a sixth grade special education teacher at Drake Middle School in Auburn, Alabama! This will be her eighteenth summer at Camp Skyline! She was a camper for nine years before becoming a Junior Counselor, Senior Counselor, Head Counselor, Summer Admin, and now her second year as an encourager! She has truly done it all!

What are you most looking forward to this summer?

Being back at camp and being able to pour into counselors! I can’t wait to meet the new staff and catch up with the returning staff. Of course I am looking forward to Beli Deli in the encouragers circle and seeing Oof. Mostly I am looking forward to another summer on the mountain living and working with the most amazing people!

If you could be any animal what would you be and why?

I’d be a cat because they can nap all day and lay in the sun

What is your favorite Skyline activity?

My heart is split between flag and baton and circus. Flag and baton is my first love, but I’ve spent too many hours on the circus field making memories with my best friends for it not to be my favorite.

What is your favorite Skyline memory?

I could pick a favorite memory from each year that I’ve been at camp! When I was a head counselor, the task I chose at Candy Crush was finding words or names in the bricks in front of the dining hall. I told one group of campers to find the name Juanita. They were looking for so long and still couldn’t find it. I started looking with them, one of the admin started looking, and we still could not find Juanita! I was convinced that I didn’t actually see it and that I made it up. It wasn’t until the next summer when someone found it that we knew Juanita was not a myth! (If you are interested in learning more about falling into the river after vespers, convincing mini campers that my name is Miss Showers, or tying mustard packets to the ceiling of Riverside, please let me know. I will be happy to share my other stories!)

What is your favorite Camp meal?

Meatloaf and Mac and cheese and it’s not even a competition. Honorable mention to the dressing at Christmas lunch.
