Whew!!!! I don’t know about y’all at home but the first few days of camp have been packed with more energy than fans at a Taylor Swift concert who have been drinking “Red Bull” all day! Don’t even try to picture that in your head, it’s too tiring just trying to imagine it.
On the first day of classes everyone was just getting started but that didn’t slow then down any.
On Monday night we had our camper favorite night time activity “Sock Wars” This is where each club takes a section of the camp and hides their club flag. Each camper is holding a handful of stuffed socks (don’t worry moms, we supply the socks for this). When they ring the bell each camper heads out to find the other clubs flag but WATCH OUT!!!! all the other campers are out look as well and everyone is armed with the stuffed socks. If a camper is hit by a stuffed sock that’s thrown by a camper in another club, they have to report to the scorers table and then they’re back in the game. If in your mind right now you’re picturing a lot of girls all dressed up in their club colors, running around and shouting/cheering all together, AND…. all throwing stuffed sock at each other (and I mean A LOT of socks) then yea… you get the picture I’m trying to paint right now. As I walked through camp Monday night you could tell how the day went by the absence of any lights on or any noise throughout camp so early in the evening. Every eye on camp was fast asleep as soon as their little heads hit their pillows! (And if I’m completely honest, I wasn’t much different when I got home too!!) Oh, I almost forgot, after all the socks were thrown and the points were tallied, who was the club that won Sock Wars you ask?? Keep reading, its no fun if I tell ya everything right off the bat.
Today (Tue) everyone was full speed ahead. Summerplace started the day off with their morning devotion about Gods grace. The canoeing class was paddling right along was they made their down stream and back up again but this time they made it all the way down to the 2nd bridge. I’m only taking a guess that they didn’t make it down to the boys camp yet cause y’all know we would have heard about that if they did!!Ropes course was swinging, girls in the tower class were climbing higher and higher. I even heard that most of them made it to the top today. In horseback, everyone got to get in a full period of riding and getting to know their horses. What about tennis and pickleball you ask, I’m glad you did! Those ladies were working on their singles and doubles and if ya can’t tel by the pic, Skyline Pickleball is a big hit this year. Our caving and repelling class already made their first trip out of camp as we went and did some starter climbs over some not too easy edges. The girls did great and its hard to believe it was only their second day!!
Some of y’all may have thought you were seeing double today in the pics. Don’t worry your eyesight is fine. Its just that a lot of our campers and counselors like to have their own “Twin Tuesday” every once in a while. I’m pretty sure its not an “official thing” as all it too to get a picture with someone as a twin was both be girls, or both have same color (or maybe even close to same color) shirt, hair or shorts. Heck, I even saw some getting their picture made cause they both were wearing shoes that were close to being the same. The girls really enjoy it and some of them go ll out.
Tonight all the girls dressed up in their club colors and played a new game called “Game of Life” where they try to get around camp without being tagged by a stuffed sock (we use those a lot up here) that was thrown by the counselors who were dressed up as all sorts of different characters. After another night of high energy and socks flying through the air the winners tonight were the Troopers!!! Way to go ladies…… I mean they’re on a roll cause the Troopers won Sock Wars the night before too (you thought I had forgotten about letting you know didn’t ya???)
Tomorrow will be another fast paced day but I think we’ll slow things down a little bit with Talent night. This will come as a great relief to the girls who’s arms have been throwing socks as fast and as far as they can the last 2 nights. Don’t worry, our photographers and videographers will be right there front and center to catch all the action on stage.
The girls won’t be the only ones that will be excited to have a slower paced night, I could use a little down time already too. I hope you guys playing along at home are getting some rest and not burning the candle at both ends this early in the session. We still have a long way to go and lots of pics and late night chats to work through before the session is over. Hang in there, and well see ya Thursday night!!
