We are in some crazy times right now. There are a lot of unknowns and uncertainties which can cause me some anxiety. This is when I have to continue to remind myself of the truths about who God is and what his word says. These things are constant and sure and places where our hope and trust should be placed on.

Music is a great way to help us remember truths. Recently Sarah Kate McLaughlin, the previous chaplain and this week’s Take Over Tuesday guest, sent me Shane and Shane’s Vintage album on Spotify. This album contains all covers of some oldies but some goodies that have been sweet reminders to me of God’s love and goodness regardless of the season.

I love all the songs on this album and highly recommend listening to it! Specifically though, the song Knowing You has been on repeat in the mornings at my house as I’m getting ready or even just in my head throughout the day. The first Stanza and chorus really resonates with me during this time.

All I once held dear, built my life upon
All this world reveres and wars to own
All I once thought gain I have counted loss
Spent and worthless now compared to this

Knowing You, Jesus, knowing You
There is no greater thing
You’re my all, You’re the best
You’re my joy, my righteousness
And I love You, Lord

It is so easy for us to look horizontally for comfort and hope. We find security in our finances, schedules, plans, and people. What a time for the Lord to show us that all of those things are worthless without Him. He is our only reliable source of comfort, security, love and hope. There is nothing better than knowing God and calling Him Lord and friend. My prayer this morning is that you and I would not just know this truth that there is nothing better than knowing Christ, but that you and I would believe this which then in return will affect the way we view our resources and relationships.
