This month on the blog we will be taking a look into a handful of different activities, some of the campers most favorite. Today we are going to talk about our Horseback Riding program at camp. At camp we offer both english style and western style riding, our campers get to choose horseback riding as one of their 6 options for a two week camper and all of our mini campers get the opportunity to take horseback riding. Our campers get to ride in the ring or on trail every day for an hour learning new techniques and skills. This activity helps girls gain confidence by trying something new that can sometimes be intimidating for them at first. Campers get better and better each day as they progress in the skills they’ve learned at camp.

Many campers come to this class and have never been on a horse before so they are being taught the fundamentals of controlling, steering, and reversing their horse. We also have girls who are trotting, learning to canter and also many girls who know their diagonals. Each session the last day of activities the campers are in a horse show where they are judged and awarded ribbons. The top riders from the horse show get the honor to be apart of the Grand Horse Show where all of camp gets to come watch. These girls work extremely hard and are rewarded for the level of experience they have riding horses.

This year we are trying something new and moving away from the additional option of the Equestrian program and offering an advance horseback riding class for all ages as long as they meet the requirements. These requirements will be skills that the camper will have to already have and will show the instructors on the first day of activities. This advanced class will allow girls to hone in on specific skills and try new things as well. Campers will be able to sign up for this advance class on activity sign up day at her camp session.
