Cooking class is a popular activity at Camp Skyline - because duh, SNACKS!! All of our two week campers have the opportunity to take cooking as one of their six activities, and the class fills up fast! Every cooking class campers work together to cook a recipe created by the cooking head. Campers learn life skills of how to use kitchen appliances and responsibility. Here are a couple fun, and easy to do, recipes similar to the ones campers use in cooking class!

Our first recipe will be for SMOOTHIES!!!

First you will need to gather a few materials!

  • Cutting board
  • Knife (ask a parent!)
  • Blender (ask a parent!)
  • Measuring cup

Then gather your ingredients!

  • 1.5 cups of your favorite fresh or frozen fruits (I like bananas, raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries!)
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 cup of your favorite juice or milk
  • If you prefer a frozen smoothie, add a few ice cube!

Now, you just throw all your ingredients in the blender and have a parent help you blend it all together! When it’s a thick and smooth consistency, pour into a couple cups, share, and enjoy!!

Now we will make MUFFINS!!! This recipe will make 8-10 muffins.

First gather your materials

  • Oven (go ahead and preheat to 400 degrees Fahrenheit)
  • Muffin Pan
  • Whisk
  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Small Mixing Bowl
  • Measuring Cups
  • Spoon or Scoop
  • Fork

Then gather your ingredients.

  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/3 cup oil (vegetable or avocado oil are great options!)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1.5 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • One cup of blueberries, strawberries, or chocolate chips

1- Whisk the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. 2- Add oil to a small bowl. Add the egg, milk, and vanilla then whisk to combine. 3- Pour small bowl into the large bowl with dry ingredients then use a fork to combine. Don’t over mix! Then fold in the berries or chips. 4- Lightly oil your muffin pan and scoop your muffin batter into the pan. 5- Bake muffins 15-20 minutes or until the tops are no longer wet.

Let cool and enjoy the perfect snack!
