First session is absolutely flying by. The girls are so gracious, fun-loving, and such a blessing to Mentone!
Our day started with morning watch, with today’s theme: He prepares. Our devos are counselor-lead which helps open conversation in the cabin or activities with the christ-centered staff we have the pleasure of working with. One of our counselors, Jenniffer, gave a great message about how God prepares us like we prepare when guests are coming over! And, how being prepared is like getting ready. It was interactive with the girls helping give examples of how they prepare for guests at home, like cleaning and setting the table!
After morning watch we head to flag raising, where we raise the american flag and say the pledge of allegiance before heading to breakfast. Today’s breakfast included sausage, biscuits, gravy, eggs, and grapes.
After breakfast the girls headed to cabin clean up before club meeting! Cabin clean up is done before our staff performs inspection. Today, Joywood and Riverside room 4 won inspection! If a cabin (or room on the older side of the river) wins 5 inspections in a row, they get free beli deli. We have some cabins close to this! Once activities kicked off the day was so much fun all around camp!
Today, the activites were super fun for the girls. Some of today’s fun included:
Our Activity Heads create lesson plans for the session so each day the girls are working toward mastering the skill in their activity or working on their performance for Showtime at camp on Wednesday night - the last day of activities. It is a camp-wide audience to see all the girls have worked so hard to learn this session. I cannot wait to see all their talents!
Also, we had beli deli and posted a video of a hot take topic: Is a hot dog a sandwich or a taco? The results are all over the board! Take a look on instagram or facebook and comment your thoughts!
We ended the night with pizza for dinner and speed challenge… Troopers 1st, Mounties 2nd, Rangers 3rd! Speed challenge is our last and largest club competition. It was in the gym tonight with a rainy evening here in Alabama. Typically, it is on the riverside field. The girls compete by age group in each club in a mulitude of relay races and each club nightime activity counts toward their points in hopes of the point cup at banquet coming up.
We cannot believe there are only two days left of activities! Packing day and banquet are right around the corner. Tomorrow night, we have music festival - the first ever here at Camp Skyline. The girls have been working hard with their cabins to plan their 80’s themed performances and I’m so excited to see them tomorrow night. Stay tuned and check out our videos for all the fun at camp so far!
