Third session has kicked off here at Skyline with the first day of activities and sock war! All around camp, the girls are having a blast. Today the girls have gotten to lean into their new activity schedules to try out new things! They also had sock war tonight which was so fun to get decked out and compete with their clubs!
Read on to learn more about today’s theme, meals, activities, sock war and check out our daily video to see your girls in their element here at camp!
Biscuits, Sausage, Eggs, Gravy, Peaches, Cereal, Milk, Yogurt, Orange Juice
Meatloaf, Fried Okra, Mac ’N Cheese, Lima Beans, Salad Bar, Optional peanut butter & Apple Jelly, Brownies and Frosting
We also celebrated two birthdays, and the girls got their first horseshoe clue of the session!
Today’s theme was the first portion of verse one in Psalm 23. “The Lord is my Shepherd…”
This morning at morning watch, we learned about all the things shepherds typically do for their sheep: protect, prepare the way, comfort, heal, etc. and we learned that we will get more information on each part of these things throughout the session. We also read from Ezekiel 34:23 - and how God is our one shepherd.
At campfire, the girls got a demonstration of how sheep can get lost if they do not listen to their shepherd. Just like how we should be following our shepherd always. We ended the night with singing taps (we do every night at the end of campfire) and dismissing each cabin. The girls will rest up before another big fun day at camp full of fun, great food, activities, and more!
For the first day, all of our activities review safety and emergency procedures. They also go ahead and start learning or taking part in the activity itself!
Today in canoeing, the girls learned how to steer and paddle techniques by our canoeing dock. They practiced steering, paddling, docking, and working together! I can’t wait to see if the girls make it all the way to camp laney tomorrow!
Today in mountain biking, the girls biked here at camp! They learned their commands and directions while also learning to shift gears based on the terrain.
Today in arts and crafts, the girls got to start on friendship bracelets and scuplt with air clay. They were working on animals but their creativity flows and we saw some hearts and crosses, and all sorts of cool shapes to paint later in the session!
Today, tower class got the chance to go ahead and harness & helmet up and get climbing! A few girls already made it to the top of the wall they attempted!
In fun swim, the girls got to cool down in the pool today! After passing the swim test yesterday, they are able to swim freely in the pool. We saw so many cool tricks and ways to jump of the diving board. It was really hot and sunny today (around 83) in Mentone so the pool was an awesome source of refreshment!
In pottery, the girls worked on moisture techniques with the clay. They used holes to work the water into the clay and move their shape smoothly!
Our bible study activity is split by age groups! The hut row & lodge girls are lead by Frances (Camp Mom) and Ivy (Summer Director) while our older girls are lead by Sally (Camp Owner). The younger girls had the chance to share their fears with Ivy and Frances for them to pray over throughtout the session and our older girls are learning how to study the bible itself, without a specific study! Sally is diving into context and teaching life long quite time practices.
Our photography class got out into camp today with their cameras to start learning camera settings and spots to capture around camp! They are getting to know each other and their cameras already and had fun exploring all the beautiful scenery at camp through a lense!
The girls got to play sock war tonight and the weather was an awesome breezey night with dusk - not dark which was so nice for aiming socks at their competitors! Each of the clubs is playing capture the flag against the others and must strategize to protect and defend their flag while also seeking and snagging the others’ without being tagged by socks.
The game kicked off with lots of girls running around and ambushing other clubs! There were so many sweaty smiles around camp. Determination was high, socks were flying as the mounties charged the troopers. Then, the troopers charged the rangers! The girls were decked out with extremely unique and creative costumes tonight.
The counselors also decked out in their assigned club colors and joined alongside the girls to help defend their flag. A mountie club leader successfully made it to the basketball court with the Rangers flag! A huge amount of points and very hard thing to do!
The results of Sock War were Troopers third, Rangers second, and Mounties FIRST!
We are so excited for day two of activities and can’t wait to see all the new memories, big smiles, and new friendships we get the pleasure of seeing here at camp. Follow along via socials and subscribe to this blog to get these daily updates!
