Well helloooooo parents!!! It was a warm welcome this morning to session 4. I’m LJ and I’m gonna tell ya everything you ever wanted to know about your daughters first day of camp. Before I get started with they day, hats off to you guys that did the driving (or riding) this morning and made check-in as seamless as possible. Well done and we really appreciate all your co-operation getting in and out of camp so quickly…… even those of you that may have been here for your daughters first year and you leaving wasn’t as “quickly” as some of the others (it’s OK, when some of y’all finally left, the girls were glad to get some time with the rest of their new cabin mates this morning).
As you guys were pulling out of camp your daughters were already playing some get to know ya games with their new cabin friends so they could learn everyones name (If you’re gonna be living with ‘em for the next 2 weeks you really should know each others names) and then its was off for a camp tour (we don’t want the little darlings getting lost while their here do we??) so they can see all the activities they had to choose from for the schedule. Speakin’ of their activity schedule, you’ll find out what that is soon cause they’ve already mailed ya a post card with their schedule and what club they’re in (more on that later).
After a delicious lunch of chicken fingers, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy and of course some assorted cobblers for dessert it was time for cabin and club pics. Those should have already been posted in the pics so heres a spoiler alert, if you want to see which club your camper is in, just see what color shirt she’s wearing. Red is for the Mounties, Green is for the Troopers and Blue is for the Rangers. You wanna make sure you know which club she’s in, Ive seen large scale family skirmishes start over a camper being called by the wrong club name. They take their club choice serious so for your own safety make sure ya get it right……
Tonight all the cabins will be playing in their own activity. This way they get to keep on gettin’ to know each other but this time it’ll involve shaving cream wars, spa night (yea…. they do that here at a girls camp), tie dye shirts, putting make up on their counselors, kickball and the really cool ones will be spending a little splash time in the pool (“cool”…. in the pool…. ya see what I did there??).
To top the night off we’ll all end up by the campfire where everyone will enjoy a delicious S’mor before we learn some Skyline songs and have our first campfire devotion of the session. This is the only campfire of the session where everyone will be all together. After tonight the older campers of Summerplace and Riverside will have their own campfire each night a little later in the evening on their side of the river.
Thankfully we got 2 short rain showers this afternoon that was just enough to cool everything off but not enough to mess up and plans of fun for all the campers. You guys are here at the perfect time, this is one of my favorite weeks of the year. Not only is it, for the first time for 4th session, Christmas in July, but you guessed it…….. Its SHARK WEEK on Nat Geo channel!!! OK, OK….. I guess for you guys at home I’ll focus on Christmas in July here at camp. But I’m gonna record shark week!!!
Speakin’ of camp theres a couple of things I wanna point out to everyone at home to help them keep up with all the fun this session. 1st there’s Camp Skyline social media. Our social media team does an amazing job of getting stories or post or whatever the younger kids are calling it. Point is, follow all our social media and you be in the know. The Roos (our blog) is what your reading now, it’ll come out each day with details about what happened and whats in store and will also have our daily video that gets uploaded each day. See…. plenty of information out there to keep all you guys playing at home entertained for the next 2 weeks!!
If ya wanna get info to your camper, theres always the regular mail sent to camp and you can also send your camper an email through the “My CSR” link on our webpage. The code to access it was emailed to you several days ago. If you send an email to you camper there is a 1$ charge to their spending account so don’t drain their account by sending more than 1 email per day. All emails are downloaded at 9:00 AM Central time and printed and handed to the campers that day with the mail just after lunch. If you have a lot of short things to say to your camper save their money my writing all your thoughts throughout the day in a word document and them pasting it to the email so you only send one email and have only one charge.
Another pro tip is using our photo program Waldo. That info wa in the same email that was sent last week to you. Its the same password as the email. If you choose to use WALDO, there is a nominal fee but WALDO will find every picture if your camper and then send them to your phone. If you don’t want to use the facial recognition function there is a free option to still be able to see all the photos our media team takes every day!!!!
Well its been a busy day here at camp and all the campers have been running around learning everything they need to know about camp while they’re here. Everyone is now tucked away in their beds dreaming about the first day of activities tomorrow and everything thats in store for them. We’ll be baking tomorrow night with all the details of the day and tomorrow nights activity called “Sock Wars” thats guaranteed to be one of the most exciting night of the whole session!! Be sure to check back tomorrow and see who’s club won Sock Wars so you can send your camper a congratulations email Tuesday morning!!!!
One thing I wanna warn ya about, its a loooong session and theres a LOT of pictures, videos and blogs to go through while your daughter is here. be sure to pace yourself and take your time. You don’t wanna be burning the candle at both ends this early in the session. You’ll be more tired than your camper at the end if ya do.
Y’all have a great night and get ready, its gonna be a fun session…. oh yea…….
Merry Christmas (in July)
