For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Frances Lindsey, Camp Mom during the summer. I was a camper myself many moons ago with my sisters. My mom was a camper too back in the 1950’s. I even sent my children to Skyline. So as you can see, Skyline means a lot to my entire family. I truly have the best job on campus, so I want to take you around my days at camp so you can see it through a mom’s eyes.

We started this beautiful day with a devotion centered around the Summer Theme, Redeemed, at Morning Watch. After Morning Watch, we moved on to Flag Raising, then to a delicious breakfast. As always, after breakfast, the kids go back to their cabin to clean up. Every cabin at camp has a caper chart with jobs listed for each girl to help in the cleaning process. You would be amazed at how our mini campers to the Riversiders can sweep, take out the trash, and make up their bed. Hopefully, they will all continue this when they get home.

As for our mini campers, we are sad to say they left today. Last night, they did a great job showing off the dance they learned this week. It’s amazing what they can learn in such a short time. The counselors who lead this activity have so much fun right alongside them.

Time around camp on a beautiful sunny day is THE best. There is noise and laughter everywhere. My favorite activity is Bible Study. I teach the girls on the Hut Row side of the river all about how we are on a lifetime quest to get to know GOD. They each have a booklet they have been working on throughout the session that I’m sure they will love to share with you when they get home. Also, be on the lookout for a performance from them at Showtime, where they will sing and dance to the song, Celebration, by Forrest Frank.

Beli-Deli is where I get to see so many kids and their nice manners. You would be proud of all the please and thank-yous I receive. Beli Deli is where your child can grab a snack and hang out with their friends. The Gaga Pit and the Rope Swing are always a favorite during this time as is sitting on the gym steps and making friendship bracelets. It’s also a great time to hunt for the Horseshoe. It still hasn’t been found yet!

Arts and Crafts girls have been busy making all kinds of crafts using nature as their main tool. It has been fun to see the creative juices flowing. We have a mom of one of our past camper/counselors who is teaching the girls, and she really has them enthralled, allowing them to use sticks, pinecones, flowers, and maybe a little hot glue. Amazing!

I pass by the pool several times a day, and one of my favorite things to see is young ladies by the pool reading a book. I taught school for several years, and seeing this just makes my day. We have a Book Nook on both sides of the river, so if you have any age-appropriate books, I’d love to have them to add to our collection. Just drop them by the office!

Tonight’s activity is a classic…Movie Night. It’s nice to slow down a bit and enjoy a good show. Last night at the Laney Dance, there was a lot of dancing and singing, so tonight is a well-earned pace. At this moment, I am sitting in the gym watching Matilda with all of my besties and eating popcorn. No place I’d rather be!

Well, I hope you have all enjoyed your day as much as I have and that you got to see a little bit of camp through a mom’s eye. I truly have the best job! Along with being Camp Mom, I am also the Alumni Relations Director. If you are a Skyline alum, we’d love for you to attend our 80th Reunion, October 2-4. Goodnight!
