Hello, Skyline Parents! Third session is going to be such a blast! Every camper I have spoken to has been so kind and excited to be at Camp Skyline for the next two weeks. Most girls I have talked to have been most excited for daytime activities (specifically ropes and circus!) I may be slightly biased (because I was a third session Skyline camper), but in my opinion, the start of July is the perfect time to be at summer camp. Everything is in full bloom, it’s warm and sunny every day, and there’s still plenty of time left in the summer before school starts back. I’m also very excited to get to experience Fourth of July at camp! As some of you may know, in the past, the third session theme has been Christmas in July, but this year it is Fourth of July… there are going to be lots of festivities happening this week! I cannot wait to get to know your camper(s) better and am looking forward to this session!
This morning, I made my rounds to Archery, Ropes, and Dance. While out and about, I saw a girl hit a bullseye on her first shot! A little Camp Skyline tradition is to write your name on the wooden archery bench when you shoot a bullseye. For each bullseye you shoot during your time as a camper, you can add a tally mark next to your name! Some of the names on the bench go all the way back to the 70s and 80s and have up to 30 tally marks next to them! We’ve got some talented little archers at camp! At the ropes, the campers spent a few minutes reviewing safety instructions, then headed up the course! Our photographers got some super cute pictures of the girls climbing the tower and on the ropes course. During dance, the girls practiced some basic “across-the-floor” moves that will be in their routine for Showtime!
We had a birthday girl today! Charlotte from Riverside turned sixteen!!! We celebrated her birthday during lunch. I loved how her cake, birthday crown, balloons, and table decorations were all pink…even her outfit was all pink! The girls also received a horseshoe clue after lunch… so the search begins today! For our parents who don’t know… the campers can ask Mrs. Frances (our Camp Mom who hides the horseshoe) for a clue by singing the horseshoe clue song after lunch. Then, if they remain quiet and respectful through all mid-day announcements, they receive a clue to where it is hidden! The horseshoe can be hidden anywhere around camp, and when found, is worth lots of club points. One of my favorite parts of camp is watching the campers search here, there, and everywhere for the clubs’ most coveted object. Hopefully, they will find it soon!
At the barn, campers mounted their horses for the FIRST time this session! The girls rode their horses around the rings and learned the correct way to hold their reins and mount. Our tennis girlies played a game of Simon Says to learn about the different areas on the court. It was hilarious to watch the campers run around the tennis court and laugh with one another throughout the game… (even when they got out!) I have always loved visiting different parts of camp on the first day of activities in each session because it’s so fun to see all the creative ways our activity heads and counselors introduce their campers to the instructional topics. At camp, everything feels like a party… even learning the rules and regulations of activities!
As usual… tonight’s nighttime activity was Sock War! When I videod the Beli Deli Discussion today, a few campers said the thing they are most looking forward to this session is Sock War. Speaking of Beli Deli Discussions… if you haven’t already checked out our Instagram,Facebook, and TikTok, please do so! You will get to see what the girls are doing in real time, and you may spot your camper(s)! I’ll include the usernames below! Anyways, back to Sock Wars. This nighttime activity is essentially a large game of capture the flag, except players throw socks at each other in the process. It is a club competiton, so if a Mountie girl throws a sock at a Ranger girl, the Ranger has to put her hands on her head and walk to the basketball court to be counted. The club that finds the flag the fastest with the least amount of sock counts wins! Sock Wars is (believe it or not) NOT our silliest activity at Camp Skyline… but y’all will have to wait and see about those later in the session!
Thank y’all so very much for sending your daughter(s) to camp this session! Summer camp (especially Camp Skyline) is truly a gift from God and one that we are all so blessed to recieve. The friendships these girls are going to make over the next two weeks are going to last them a life time. Trust me… I met one of my best friends in my first year cabin at Camp Skyline during third session. She and I are also both working on the camp media team this summer. It is such a full circle moment to get to witness the positive affect your daugthers are having on each other with my camp best friend. It’s so precious how campers can not see one another for months on end and pick up right where they left off as soon as they arrive. Or they may even be meeting their soul sister for the first time! Either way, they are going to have the best session ever, and I am so glad that each and every one of them is here. I already know this session is going to be tough to beat!
I hope y’all have a wonderful night!
Best regards,
Flora Belle Easley
