Hello Skyline Parents!
Today is the 10th day of activities (I know, double digits!!) and the girls are having so much fun doing their activities! This morning’s theme for morning watch was Salvation. The girls focused on Romans 5:9, and learned that even though we are sinners, God is so gracious and kind enough that he gave us the chance to be justified. And because we are his true followers, we don’t have to live in fear, we get to live in freedom. After flag raising, we headed to the dining hall for a yummy breakfast of scones, grapes, and bacon.
First period fitness worked their muscles doing an upper body workout. They laid out mats and got weights as they warmed up for a 30 minute workout. Our fitness instructor, Leigh, led the workout and guided them through it, as well as gave them choices of different exercises they could do. They did hammer curls, lateral raises, bent over rows, and of course the classic push-ups and crunches. They had such a blast as music played and got their bodies moving. I could even hear the excitement from outside of summerplace!
Our Outdoor Adventure class went around camp learning about navigation. They started out learning how to read a compass and how one works from the inside. They then went on a walk learning how to make markers on a path. From tying strings to tree branches or leaving sticks in the ground, these girls are definitely prepared for an outdoor adventure!
The LT group played a game with a big blue band where four players inside the band had to run the opposite way while still keeping the band tight so they don’t fall over. This game is an LT tradition that they do every year and look forward to, because the whole camp gets to see them do it. The game requires a lot of trust and coordination with their teammates, something they’ve built over the camp session. Such a fun way to play with friends and demonstrate their bond!
In Pickleball, girls had a Pickleball Olympics. They were split into teams of four, and came up with a cheer and dance that was judged for points. They had some pickleball events like “Tic Tac Toe” (if you win the point you get to make a mark on the tic tac toe board) and “Around the World” where they ran around in a big circle, taking turns hitting the ball in a rally until only two players were left who hadn’t lost the point. Winning each event counted towards overall points, and the team “American Girl Dolls” won!
Today’s big activity was Color War! First, each cabin had a counselor who they had to protect from getting color thrown on them during different games. Games included “The Floor is Lava” (where counselors could only step on paper that campers had put down, while the other campers protected the counselor from color getting thrown on them) and “Dodge It” (where counselors ran from tree to tree while dodging color and water balloons, while the campers also had to protect and avoid the color and water balloons). After the activities, the two counselors with the least color on them were selected and had a dance off!
After the games, everyone went to Riverside field where every camper got a handful of powder and threw it in the air, a tradition done every year for Color War.
Then everyone got fun pictures and settled down for the night to watch the movie Mulan after dinner, but not before stopping by Beli Deli for some popcorn and a drink!
Tomorrow is our last day of activities. We can’t wait to share the best final moments from camp, but for now, enjoy the daily video!
Best wishes,
Kaylee
