Dear Skyline Parents, I hope you are having a wonderful week so far! I know your camper(s) sure are. The energy at Camp Skyline the past few days has been nothing short of pure excitement and bliss. Being able to witness these moments with your daughters is such a blessing and an opportunity I certainly do not take for granted. For example, during the first period of Circus, I watched a camper conquer her fear of heights by bravely shouting “I love Circus!” every time she had the urge to get down from the swing. By the end of the class, she was doing all sorts of tricks and having a blast while doing so. It’s witnessing small victories like this that make working at camp so special. So… thank you for allowing me to do so by sending your girls to summer camp!
Food is definitely not in short supply at Camp Skyline. This morning, the campers got to choose from a delicious spread of biscuits, fruit, oatmeal, eggs, and bacon for breakfast. And during Beli Deli, almost everyone had a frio in hand. Today was also Beli Deli Discussion day! The campers go absolutely nuts for those videos. It is certainly one of my favorite parts of the job. The girls get so excited for a chance to be featured on the TikTok page. Today’s question was: What is your favorite night time activity? If you haven’t done so already, check out today’s Beli Deli discussion video… You just may spot your camper!
It was such an eventful day in Fun Swim! Today, they whipped out the slip and slide. Every camper was smiling and laughing during slip and slide time… it was the cutest thing! Campers love sliding down and our photogaphers were able to get some super sweet photos of that in action. Additionally, the girls got to swim in the pool and the river! The lily pads were also out on the water. I saw several girls jumping off of them into the water. On hot and sunny days like today, the river feels extra nice.
There has been lots of club spirit here at camp this session! With everyone searching for the horseshoe, the stakes are high, and girls are constantly waiting for the next clue. Before lunch, all of the campers crowded around the dining hall doors and cheered their hearts out! Each club received a turn to shout their chant that was led by the 4 club leaders. I could hear the Troopers from the other end of the hall! I think one of the funnest traditions for campers is the club chants before meals so to see that it is still happening is so sweet!
Today, during cooking, the girls cooked up some yummy ham and cheese sliders and mini fruit pizzas! Cooking is one of our most popular activities and fills up so quick during activity signups. One of the best parts about this specific activity is that you get to eat what you cook! Each recipe that the girls prepare is 100% homeade. So if your camper is taking this activity, she should have a few more recipes she knows how to make by the time she comes home. I challenge you to test her on one of them… because the foods they prepare are so good!
In ropes, they had the zipline going today! I always loved going down the zipline as a camper and the amazing activity heads actually let me zip down one time so I could take a video for the media from a camper’s perspective! It was so much fun to get to reminisce on something I did as a camper and served as a wonderful reminder of why summer camp is so special. The only thing more fun than going down the zipline myself was watching campers laugh and squeal as they zipped down! Something super cool about zipline that some parents may not know is that the rider (camper) and safety (counselor) have a call and repeat system to ensure safety when riding down the zipline. For example, the rider, after being clipped onto the system by their harness, will shout to the safety “Jesus loves me this I know…” and after clearing the area the safety will shout back, “For the Bible tells me so!” As a way to let the rider know that its safe to zip down. The girls always come up with some creative (and usually hilarious) songs to sing to the counselors that never fails to make us laugh.
Tonight’s night time activity was Talent Night! Boy oh boy do we have some talented girls here at Camp Skyline Ranch! From dancers to singers to magicians, we were kept entertained all night long by all of these amazing little performers. We even had two girls perform a karate act! That one was a fan favorite. A reason I always look forward to talent night is the different claps that the audience gives the performers following their routine. For example, there is the Seal of Approval (essentially everyone claps like a seal and makes a “arf arf” noise… that one gets me everytime), the Firefly (everyone snaps), the Firework (everyone gives a round of applause), the Mosquito (everyone slaps their knees), and the applause of highest rank… The O. During The O, all campers raise their arms in a circle-like position and shout “Oh!” It’s so surreal watching all of these young girls cheer each other on and support their friends… even if they just met four days ago.
I am also the Social Media Intern here at camp, so if you would like to follow along on what the campers are doing in real time, be sure to check out our Instagram and TikTok! Our fabulous videographers have also prepared today’s video, which I will attach below. Have a great night! Instagram: @campskyline TikTok: @campskylineranch
