Hello Skyline parents!
It’s the second day of activities and we are having a blast! Activities are in full swing and it’s a pleasure to walk around and see how much fun the girls are having.
After morning watch and flag raising, we had a camp breakfast favorite: french toast, bacon and grapes. Before heading out to club meetings, one of our camp dogs, Bitsy, was out and about getting pets from almost every girl who walked by her. Such a great start to an amazing day!
Heading into first period, I went to gymnastics, where girls were practicing their skills such as aerials, back handsprings, and handstands. They were flipping with excitement and encouraged their peers as they did each and every skill. Whether they were advanced or still starting out, every girl was encouraging to one another as they improved on a skill or just wanted to showcase. It was so fun to see the amazing talent these girls have and are continuing to perfect.
During second period, I went to Arts & Crafts and Pottery. In Arts & Crafts, girls were cutting up and painting paper towel rolls to make different animals. Today, they chose their pieces to dry overnight so they can be hot glued together tomorrow. Girls chose animals from horses to elephants. From the looks of it, there should be a zoo in the Arts & Crafts room tomorrow! The Pottery girls were starting to shape wet clay to make ceramic dishes. They made cups, bowls and plates. They can’t wait until they are put into the kiln to harden so they can paint them!
I also went to our lovely LT group. On the porch they played a leadership activity with Katie, where they chose qualities about what they saw and value in a leader and in themselves as leaders. They all chose different things they valued, making for a diverse and honest discussion about how they can use what they value in the future to better themselves and others. They also discussed characteristics they have strength in and characteristics they would like to work on, and how they can plan to use or work on them.
Third period circus took turns practicing skills on the ropes like Penny Drops, the Superman and Hammocks. It’s the second day and the girls already have so much confidence! They each went twice climbing to the top and doing a skill of choice. Some girls scream “I love Circus” - a common scream of confidence for circus girls as they swing with the rope before they do their skill. As they contorted, climbed and swung, they were met with cheers from fellow campers, not only in Circus, but even some from ropes too!
Fourth period Cooking 2 made yummy homemade Mac n Cheese. They boiled and stirred the pasta, made their own cheese sauce from scratch using milk, shredded cheddar cheese and parmesan, and then put it in the oven to make it baked. While they waited, girls played a guessing game about camp, where they had to guess their friend’s favorite thing around camp. Once it was ready, they all got to taste the product of their hard work. It smelled so yummy!
Tonight’s activity was “Game of Life”, which is kind of a twist on last night’s Sock War. Counselors dress up as different crazy characters as they throw socks at the campers to try to get them “out”. At the beginning, all campers have four wristbands, if they get hit, they lose a life and must go back to their club meeting space to give up a wristband. Once they are out of wristband “lives” they are rounded up by club, and the club with the least people rounded up by the end of the game wins. The campers had so much fun tonight, and the winning club was the Rangers! Troopers came in second, and Mounties came in third! After a fun night of club spirit, we ended with a dance party in the gym!
Until next time,
Kaylee
