Happy 250th birthday of America, (Aka Independence Day!) Today was full of patriotism and red, white and blue! Our day started off with a very special flag raising where we pledged allegiance to our flag and sang the national anthem! After flag raising, we sat down for a yummy breakfast of grapes, pancakes and bacon! Before the festivities started, we had to say goodbye to our minis. We’ll miss them so much and wish them a happy Fourth of July with their families!
After breakfast, we had a Fourth of July parade. Over the week our cabins have been working on banners for the parade, and they were so excited to show off their cabin’s creativity! The parade started off with barn staff on horses, before we got to see the cabins and their banners! The campers loved participating and handing out red, white and blue necklaces to the campers who sat on the side and watched. The nurses and camp kids even had their own golf carts and banners!
The festivities continued on with a Fourth of July-inspired county fair! Campers dressed in their favorite patriotic outfits and accessories top celebrate. The girls enjoyed red, white and blue popsicles while they went to different activities. There was karaoke, hair braiding, and slip and slide inflatables! Girls also enjoyed games of Gaga ball, swinging on the rope swings and playing tennis. There was plenty of American music playing such as Party in the U.S.A, and Born in the U.S.A, as well as other camp-favorite hits like Lush Life ands Crusin’ for a Bruisin’.
In the afternoon, we gathered at Riverside field for a camp-wide olympics, where all 3 clubs competed in their age groups. Summerplace and Riverside opened with a hula hoop and cup balancing contest. After the girls enjoyed a second round of popsicles for the day and ran through the sprinklers, Hut Row and Lodge participated in several challenges that consisted of :
After a picnic dinner of hot dogs and chips, we gathered at the pool in our swimsuits to start a swim meet contest! Today lodge and hut Row went, and they did amazing! They cheered with their clubs and encouraged the contestants all the way through. They did a seahorse and dolphin race, which involved swimming with inflatables. They also did medley and relay races which were speed contests doing different swimming strokes. Tomorrow Riverside and Summerplace will compete to finish out today’s festivities. Swim meet was such a fun activity before settling down for the night for campfire and a fireworks show to end the day.
We had so much fun celebrating today! Don’t forget to check out our daily video to see more fun in action!
Until next time,
