Hello, Families. I am Ivy McCoy, the Summer Director. I typically write many blogs in the “off season” and see a lot of you on opening day or throughout the year traveling, but I typically do not write blogs in the summer, so I am excited that I am getting the opportunity to write the blog for you tonight!
We are having so much fun at camp, and I can’t wait to tell you more about how our day has gone.
This morning was extra special as I typically struggle making it to morning watch since I am getting a 5-year-old and 18-month-old ready in the morning and out the door by 7:30, but we made it just in time for the last song and to learn about the theme for the day. The theme for the day was “Rejoice.” Two of our amazing counselors talked about rejoicing and endurance. They gave a theme verse and encouraged all the girls to rejoice in the goodness of things today at camp!
After flag raising, we enjoyed sausage biscuits and some fresh fruit in the dining hall. I love hearing all the girls chatting away at meal times with their tables and getting excited for a wonderful day ahead.
At club meeting today, Evan gave all of the clubs some lights to decorate their club area since it is Christmas in July, and walking around today, each spot is super cute with a little extra pop of red, blue, or green.
1st period today, I went to pickleball. This is the older girls’ class, and it was still nice and overcast, so it felt really good to be out on the courts playing with all of the girls. They are all really good at pickleball.
Also, during first period, fitness took an off-campus trip and ran to Camp Laney, which is always so much fun for them. This year in fitness, we have a former camp parent, Leigh, who is running our fitness class, and she is teaching girls healthy ways to stay fit and have fun too. Our fitness classes have been a big hit, and Leigh has been such a blessing to us this summer.
After Beli Deli, I saw girls at ropes course on the static level and also zipping down the zip line, some girls at circus were working on swinging penny drops, and the minis were learning all about Archery.
3rd period, I help Frances teach Bible study, and we have such a sweet group of lodge and hut row age campers. Today, we played a little game called “ Come and go, we talked about how God wants us to come to him and ask, but also go out and tell others about him as well. We talked more in-depth about God’s promises, and the girls worked in their Quest workbooks a little bit.
For lunch, we had Roast beef, baby potatoes, and green beans. For dessert, we had the most delicious Rice Krispies treats. The riverside campers also asked for another horseshoe clue. After lunch, all the cabins grabbed mail and went to rest in their cabins. I chose to do the same and took a little nap with my oldest child, Lola Kate.
When the bell rang for 4th period, I could hear all the excitement of girls rushing off to class. Pottery classes today created texture stones, and it was so neat to see the different things girls added, some added words, or some added animals to their stone. Horseback girls were learning more skills, and cheerleading had a tumbling day.
The Beli deli bell rang, and the race was off for campers to search for the horseshoe after today’s clue. Girls were getting really close, and the Ranger Captain found the horseshoe on the back porch of Bevshack.
I headed over to ropes for 5th period and saw girls doing the dangling duo, where they have to work together with a partner to make it to the top. This is fun to watch as they help each other, and they are so fast at climbing. Older dance was working really hard on a dance to a Michael Jackson song, and they are talented girls. I can’t wait to see the final performance at showtime.
Today, during camper choice, the girls were able to choose card games, kinetic sand, sewing, chalk, Skyline Sisters, Yoga, Book Club, Scavenger Hunt, Bouldering, Zumba, GaGa Ball, Chill Zone, Pickleball, or Trash Can Band. I have loved getting to hang out with girls during this 40-minute period where they can decompress from a busy day and choose something relaxing if they want to.
Tonight we had Talent Night, and so many girls got up on stage and performed. From singing to dancing to playing the piano, and even someone showing off skills with jump roping, it was really impressive. All of you parents would have been so proud of the confident girls who got on stage in front of all of camp!
I hope when your girls return home, you can see how much they have grown at camp over the time they have been here. It brings me so much joy to watch girls conquer fears and learn more about themselves each day here at Skyline! Thank you for letting me love on your girls for this session!
Goodnight!
Ivy
