What we miss most about the summer
10 Things We Miss Most About Camp
- The sound of everyone singing together: Whether it was during a campfire, meals in the dining hall, or just randomly throughout the day, those moments are hard to forget.
- Morningwatch: Singing and a counselor-led devotional first thing in the morning is the best way to start the day.
- Campfire: The smores, the stars, the songs, and conversations that feel a little more meaningful when you’re sitting around a campfire with your friends, away from the world’s distractions.
- The Rain: This summer it rained a lot! All the chaos that comes with trying to stay dry… or realizing there’s no point in trying while walking to your next activity.
- The friendships:
Camp has a way of bringing people together quickly. Some friendships may have started with a simple “What’s your name?” and turned into friendships you’ll carry long after summer ends. I have many camp friends that know me better than anyone else in my life because at camp you can just be yourself and people love you for who you are. - The Laughter: Walking around camp, I would say this is the most common sound. Everything is happier, funnier, and more ridiculous in the “camp bubble”.
- Time with the Lord: One of the sweetest parts of camp is having space to slow down, pray, worship, and remember what really matters. It’s so special to grow closer to God alongside your camp friends.
- The traditions: The songs, games, cheers, meals, & activities become the things you look forward to most. You don’t realize how special they are until you’re home again, or in our case, until all the campers leave. .
- Not knowing what day it is: At camp, Monday feels like Friday, lunch feels like dinner, and eventually you lose track of time because nothing matters except for camp.
- Feeling at home: Though us admin live here year round, the people make the place. Camp has an entirely different feel once our campers and counselors are gone. During the summer you are surrounded by people who love Jesus, encourage one another, and make you feel like you belong.
Summer may be over, but that doesn’t mean the joy, friendships, and memories have to stay at camp. Until next summer, we’ll be holding onto the moments that made this one unforgettable!
