Today at camp, the girls enjoyed their second to to last day of activities. I am so sad at how quickly the summer has gone by here at camp! All around camp there are so many new friendships, so many smiles, and so many memories being made. Not to mention, fears conquered in the air at ropes and circus, first bullseyes in riflery and archery, and appetites growing for new foods at camp! Getting to float around and spend time capturing these moments for you all has been an absolute pleasure! Your girls love the camera!!

Activities

Canoeing

In canoeing, the older girls got to go on the (optional) canoe trip this morning! The girls that take the trip wake up extra early, canoe to Desoto Falls, and have their breakfast amongst the view of the falls! Desoto Falls are a local attraction here in Mentone and have been extra gorgeous on these super sunny days. The girls on the trip return after first period just in time for Beli Deli! The trip is extra fun and we were able to send one of our extremely talented media girls, Hannah, to capture all the moments and memories while spending time with the campers! The rest of the canoeing classes have been attempting to make it to Laney (about 1 mile down river each way) within their one hour time period.

Mountain Biking

Mountain Biking also had their mountain biking trip today! Mountain Biking is only offered to our girls in Summerplace or Riverside and the trip is a special (and optional) treat. They leave before 3rd period, around 11:30, and head to our Camp Owners (Sally & Larry’s) north property, north of Mentone on the georgia side of the mountain. Once they arrive (about 20 minutes up the highway), the girls eat their lunch around the campfire before their big excursion. Sally and Larry’s property has about four biking trails with mixed terrain to challenge the girls and let them see some new things! The trip is such a treat and we also were about to send a talented media member, Allie, along with them to capture all the moments for you all! Keep an eye out for Waldo of course! Check out our reel from the trip on instagram as well, @campskyline!

Archery

In archery today, the girls are taking their turns shooting for club points. We have seen so much growth in technique, grouping, and aim and the girls are having a lot of fun with some friendly competition to help their club’s attempt at the point cup! Archery is also such a nice shaded activity where the girls get to spend time with each other and counselors alike while other campers take their turns shooting. If they get a bullseye, they get to sign the bench at our archery range so their name lives at camp forever! We’ve seen plenty of first bullseyes this session and the girls are just elated when they get one!

Musical Theatre & Set Design

In musical theatre and set design, the girls are preparing for their big camp-wide performance tomorrow night. They are having an extra rehearsal during rest hour and during their fourth period class. The set design girls join in on this and have locked in all the costumes and props! They are working to finish the sets to set the stage for the musical. The girls have been working so hard at remembering their lines, songs, and coreography and camp is stirring with excitement for the performance.

Fun Swim

In swimming today, the girls played and floated along in the pool! There were many games of marco polo, categories, and star. Some also with the classic sharks and minnows. It’s been so hot today in Mentone - between 72 and 87 today with the sun shining, so the chance to hop in the pool is a cherished and refreshing experience for any of us!

Fitness

In fitness, the girls are walking to the Mentone Market today! The walk is about 0.7 miles each way, and they break up the walk with the chance to browse and snack at the market. The market has plenty of shoopping goods, food options, cold drinks, and candy so our fitness girls love to treat themselves after the exercise to get there. Tomorrow is their cheat day so the walk in the heat today is a great final stretch of cardio!

Home Science

Today in Home Science, April is teaching the girls all about manners and etiquette. She prints out pieces of proper table settings for each girl to use, place, and color during their lesson today. With their final tea party tomorrow, it’s imperative they take what they’ve learned for proper ettiquette and we hope they bring some new or continued habits back home! Home Science is very popular, and the girls also have side crochet projects they get to work on between items – so you’ll likely get to see their new skill at home!

Cooking

Today in cooking, the girls made dirt cups - brownies with gummy worms in them. They also made lemon popsicles! The girls were quick to make and enjoy their dirt cups which allowed for making both! The girls have been building and decorating their cookbooks to bring home some of these recipes they should be able to make for you! The treats are so yummy and it is so cute to see when the girls share and get excited at their creations.

Painting

Today in painting, the girls used q-tips to create and connect dots into whatever shape, object, person, or vision they have. It was very cute to see all the creativity displayed! Once they completed their paintings and let them dry, the girls got to play some gaga ball together. They will grab all their projects at the end of class tomorrow (the last day of activities) to bring home with them on Friday! We hope you are impressed by the talent and individuality we have seen here in painting, arts and crafts, pottery, and really all the activities!

Horseback Riding

Today in Horseback, the girls got to go on a trail ride on our trail here at camp. They enjoyed one last day of luxury riding before the horse show in each period tomorrow! Tomorrow is the qualifier for the camp-wide horseshow on Thursday and the results count for club points towards the horseshow cup we present at banquet.

We did have a storm here in Mentone during fifth period, resulting in rainy day games in all our outdoor activities! The girls had fun playing indoor games together and enjoying some time with their friends before speed challenge tonight.

Tower

In tower today, the girls got the chance to climb blind folded! This is extremely challenging and includes so many communication techniques and encouragements from all the other girls in the activity period. It’s so cute to see girls team up and work together to help each other climb and try to make it to the top of the walls. It is also a team effort if someone makes it, so all can celebrate the success – more so than the days of individual success in tower.

Speed Challenge

Tonight, we played speed challenge - the last and largest club competition of the session. Speed challenge consists of multiple relays per club, per age group, for club points! The girls take turns racing and completing the challenges and doing club cheers to encourage their clubmates to victory! So much excitement and a lot of lost voices always come from speed challenge as the girls race and cheer their hearts out for the most club spirit and fastest completion times. Our staff gets assigned a club to participate with and they love cheering alongside their campers in each club. It is so fun to see their outfits and club spirit for a night with the campers!!

Each of the clubs came up with a theme for their outfits tonight. Rangers: Blues Clues, Troopers: Green Out, Mounties: Red Out. These are taken very seriously as the last chance to deck out in their club colors, so of course we saw so much body paint and body glitter, fun outfits, and creative uses of color of course.

The results of speed challenge, fourth session, 2025 were….

FIRST: Rangers

SECOND: Mounties

THIRD: Troopers

After a super fun and extremely active night full of cheering, running, and racing the girls went to campfire to wind down and learn about how things in the world can try to distract us from how good God is. We are so thankful for these special memories and the time with each of the girls and I’m amazed at all their hard work tonight!!
